Abstract
Tertullian was the first Christian apologist to suggest the closeness of Seneca’s thought to Christianity. It began a gradual assimilation of the Stoic thinker into the Christian tradition. This process continued until the Renaissance, where hypotheses even emerged suggesting that Seneca himself was baptised. Although the scholarly literature comprehensively describes the phenomenon of Seneca’s assimilation into Christianity, little research has been conducted to examine its underlying causes. This article aims to address this gap by conducting a comparative and intertextual analysis of the concept of a morally perfect figure as presented by Seneca and Tertullian. This choice is based on the intriguing possibility that Tertullian may have depicted Jesus Christ within the framework established by Seneca.
